Danny MacAskill's Wee Day Out - Documentary/ sports

The action sports short film follows the well renowned athlete 'Danny MacAskill' exploring the rural landscape around Edinburgh with the intention of the film capturing the simple fun of a ride in the country. Throughout the film the main emphasis is placed on the one character, Danny MacAskill. The character is clearly portrayed to be a professional level sportsman as the seamless editing and only flawless stunts shown in the film support this. Furthermore, a variety of camera work is prevalent throughout. A range of camera angles and movements make for an engaging piece. The use of pans and tracking shots of the rider keep the focus purely on him and add emphasis to this.

The film is edited in a fast paced style with there being cuts every few seconds, this past paced editing further reinforces the past paced nature of the sport being shown. The film also makes use of several creative techniques such as slow motion, this can be seen at 2:45 within the video. The use of the fast paced action juxtaposed by the slow motion of the trick makes for a more dramatic scene whilst again adding emphasis the the character. In the film there is also little use of special effects, this keeps it pure and doesn't detract from the sport/ narrative it is trying to present. However, there are title graphics features which are designed in a vintage style in order to match the video of the vintage train and setting.
